Suspect Detained for Illegal Possession of Firearm and Ammo

29 October 2026 by Con Tributor

WESTERN CAPE – Early morning SAPS deployments at taxi ranks in Khayelitsha to combat taxi related shootings and to ensure that commuters are safe while travelling to work and school led to the arrest of a suspect for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition on Thursday, 29 October 2026.

SAPS members responded to information about taxi drivers who are gathering at a taxi rank in Site C. The members approached the group of men who were gathered when they noticed one male kicking an object under a vehicle. He was apprehended and when one of the police members looked under the vehicle he found a 9mm pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition. The adult male could not produce a firearm license and was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

He will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court once he has been charged.

Meanwhile, police deployments are in place and are conducting crime prevention initiatives in efforts to curb further taxi-related shooting incidents to occur.
