WESTERN CAPE – Efforts to remove firearms from communities which are vulnerable to gang violence led to the arrest of two suspects on Monday morning, 17 August 2026.
Members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team and Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team conducted an intelligence driven operation in Uitsig, Ravensmead, to combat gang violence in the area. The members searched a premises in Tamboti Court, where they found a .38 Special revolver with ammunition, two imitation firearms and blank rounds in the house. Two suspects, a male and a female aged 18 and 21 were arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and the possession of imitation firearms.
The suspects are due to appear in the Goodwood Magistrates’ court once they have been charged.
In an unrelated matter, members of Operation Lockdown III searched a premises in Olivier Street, Valhalla Park, where they confiscated 100 mandrax tablets. They followed up information about drugs at the premises and searched it. This led to the arrest of a 41-year-old male for the possession of drugs.
He will appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates’ Court today.
