Swartland Municipality launches GBV Ambassadors initiative

22 August 2022 by Alan

Dear Editor

The DA welcomes the Swartland Municipality’s GBV Ambassadors Initiative launched in Malmesbury last week. This initiative is a grass-roots approach to combat GBV in communities, by deploying ambassadors in every ward who will provide support to victims of GBV and drive localized awareness campaigns.

The main objective of this initiative is to empower victims of GBV and drive home the message that there are support services readily available.

The latest crime statistics, released last week, have shown that the scourge of GBV is still a major issue that threatens the lives of women and children, and initiatives such as these show that DA governments provide solutions to crime in our communities.

As a caring party we applaud the efforts of the Swartland Municipality, together with the Western Cape Department of Social Development and all stakeholders involved, for recognizing the seriousness of the scourge of GBV in our communities and establishing citizen-centered programmes that provide much-needed support to victims.

Regards

Anton Bredell
