Prostate cancer is the most common male cancer globally and here in South Africa. According to a report by the National Cancer Registry in 2017, South African men have a one in 16 risk for being diagnosed in their lifetime. However, few South African men are prepared to talk about it.

The absence of symptoms in the early stages makes this form of cancer a silent killer because, once symptoms start presenting themselves, the cancer has already progressed to advanced stages. Therefore, it’s important that from the age of 40 for African men and 50 for Caucasian men are tested annually. “We wanted to partner with an organisation that works on educating the public but also, on creating an environment that is free of judgement so that we can be open about challenges faced by men, especially in SA,” explains Craig van der Venter, founder and managing director of Cape Town Classic Dry Gin.

For every bottle sold of the Cape Town Classic Dry Gin, a portion of the proceeds made will go to the Men’s Foundation to raise funds for testicular & prostate cancer treatment and education as well as mental health programmes.

For more information on the work done by the Men’s Foundation, visit their website.
