The Black Business Council (BBC) congratulates Chief Justice Mandisa Maya on her appointment as the first female Chief Justice of South Africa.
The Presidency announced yesterday that Deputy Chief Justice Mandisa Maya would succeed Raymond Zondo, who is set to retire at the end of the month after being the head of judiciary since 2022.
Maya, who previously headed SA’s second-highest court, the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA), will officially assume her new role on September 1.
Maya’s qualifications and judicial record, her leadership qualities, her experience as a judge in various courts, her past leadership of the Supreme Court of Appeal and her role as deputy chief justice speak for themselves.
“This historic, massive and positive development will also send a clear message to the world, the continent and the country at large that South Africa is serious about women empowerment. It will also say to a girl child, it is possible and doable” commented Kganki Matabane, the BBC CEO.
