The Golden Oldies to Serenade Kirstenbosch With Timeless Classics This Valentine’s Weekend

16 February 2025 by Con Tributor

The Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts will celebrate the golden era of music with an unforgettable performance by The Golden Oldies on Sunday, 16 February 2025. A brainchild of South African music legend Terry Fortune, The Golden Oldies is more than just a band—it is a movement dedicated to honouring and showcasing veteran artists who have shaped the country’s musical landscape.

Rooted in Fortune’s passion for preserving and celebrating South Africa’s musical heritage, The Golden Oldies is a platform that harnesses the extraordinary legacy of
artists who have left an indelible mark on the arts industry and who continue to captivate audiences with their timeless talent. The initiative is devoted to the “Golden Agers”, a collective of seasoned performers who have dedicated their lives to music. This concert is both a celebration and a tribute, paying homage to these legends
while offering audiences a rare opportunity to experience the artistry of musicians whose contributions have stood the test of time.

Two esteemed MCs, award-winning entertainer Waseef Piekaan and renowned arts advocate Dr Marlene Le Roux, will guide audiences through this special evening, bringing their signature charm and insight to the event. The Golden Oldies concert will showcase a stellar lineup of veteran South African artists: Madeegha Anders, Andrew Young, Richard Ceaser, Thembi Mtshali, Mzanzi Tenors and Willie Van Zyl. Each artist will bring their unique style and musical legacy to the Kirstenbosch stage.

Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated performance, Terry Fortune expressed the importance of this event, “the Golden Oldies repertoire for the concert will reflect an era of music that produced timeless, iconic songs—melodies that remain as popular and familiar today as they were decades ago. This performance is about more than nostalgia; it is about honouring the artists who paved the way and whose voices and music continue to inspire generations. It is a moment to acknowledge their artistry, their sacrifices, and their lasting contributions to our country’s cultural identity. Expect a night of beautiful memories, heartfelt performances, and the kind of music that touches the soul.”

Audiences can look forward to an afternoon where vintage meets vibrant, as The Golden Oldies bring their signature warmth and energy to the lush setting of
Kirstenbosch. From smooth ballads to lively dance numbers, this concert is set to be a heartwarming tribute to the golden days of music.

Sarah Struys, Events and Tourism Manager Kirstenbosch, reflected on the significance of this performance, “Kirstenbosch has always been a place where music transcends generations, and The Golden Oldies embody that spirit. Their music carries stories, emotions, and an incredible legacy that continues to inspire.

This Valentine’s weekend, audiences will be treated to a heartfelt celebration of music and love.”

As the sun sets over the garden, The Golden Oldies will remind audiences why great music never fades—it only grows richer with time.
