The Work Before the Carpet Machine Starts Matters, Says Local Cleaner

18 October 2026 by CapeTownNewsReader

Gqeberha: Before a cleaning machine reaches a marked carpet, the smaller problem areas may already have needed individual attention. True Clean owner Diederik Visser’s demonstrations show why that preparation takes time.

In one carpet video, he refills a spotting container to pre-treat marked areas, including oil marks, before scrubbing and the main cleaning stage. The final pass with the machine is only the part a customer may happen to watch.

His loose-rug recordings follow another sequence suited to those items. Dry material is removed, the rug is pre-treated and the fibres are worked before washing. A stubborn area can require further attention during that preparation.

“The preparation takes longer than the actual cleaning itself,” he says in a recording about rug work.

The company’s service descriptions include bedrooms and passages alongside loose rugs and furniture. That variety matters because a cleaning request can cover items with different materials and different problems. Knowing which item is affected comes before choosing the method.

For fitted carpet, True Clean’s published process starts with vacuuming. Traffic lanes and marks are then pre-sprayed before hot water extraction removes the loosened material. The steps serve different purposes within the same job.

The company also uses low-moisture cleaning where appropriate. That can suit work where the carpet should not be heavily wetted. The decision follows the condition and requirements of the floor, rather than assuming every room needs an identical process.

Visser’s rug demonstrations make the role of scrubbing visible. He explains that it works the treatment through the fibres and helps loosen dirt and oils before cleaning. For a loose rug at the workshop, dry-soil removal and washing also need to be coordinated with the drying stage.

That is one reason a single machine pass cannot describe everything the item has needed. Some time is spent assessing a mark and some is spent preparing it. The operator may learn more about a stubborn area as that work proceeds.

Customers can help with information that cannot be read from the surface. If the cause of a spill is known, it is worth saying so. The approximate age of the mark and any products already applied also help the cleaner understand what is being assessed.

A patch that has lost colour needs a different conversation from dirt held in the pile. True Clean’s service information explains that cleaning cannot return dye that has been removed. Other marks may lift or become less visible, with the likely result discussed at the job.

Preparation therefore involves expectations as well as equipment. The customer should know which problem areas need attention and what limits have been identified. That is more useful than judging the work only by how long the machine remains in the room.

After cleaning, the floor also needs suitable drying conditions. True Clean asks customers to get air moving through the room. That final part of the arrangement should be considered when planning access and the household’s use of the space.

The Birth of Cape Town’s English Daily Press: The Cape Times was founded in 1876 by Frederick York St Leger as South Africa’s first morning daily newspaper. It quickly established itself as a cornerstone of English-language journalism in the Western Cape, covering local, national, and international affairs for over a century. Built to compete with established weeklies and bi-weeklies, the paper adopted a traditional broadsheet style that focused on parliamentary coverage, commercial reporting, and civic news. Over decades of shifting political tides, the Cape Times played a pivotal role in shaping public discourse in the mother city.
