Transnet National Ports Authority CE Tau Morwe and TNPA executives proved their commitment to the environment, communities and biophysical cosmos in Cape Town when they recently visited CSI projects in Cape Town.
The first step of the tour took the TNPA team to Northlink College in Plattekloof where students attend a bridging course before pursuing marine-related studies at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). The team met with CEO of Northlink College, Leon Beach, senior management and nine current students.
The students at Northlink College boasted 100% attendance, while all students qualified for forthcoming exams. Beach proudly thanked TNPA for their support and continued efforts in their commitment to education within the maritime sector.
The second destination saw the TNPA team at Matthew Goniwe Memorial School in Khayelitsha where the team were eagerly welcomed by the school’s prinicipal, a dancing group and a poet. The need for maths and science tutoring was highlighted as one of the key needs of the school.
Simonstown was the next stop, where the team met with CEO of the Western Cape Education Foundation and Simonstown School principal, Brian Ingpen.
Tau Morwe pledged a R500 000.00 contribution to the school for the 2012/2013 financial year. The Simonstown School strategic project has added value to marine education at TNPA and the maritime fraternity through the years.
