The City of Cape Town wishes to appoint a Transaction Advisor to evaluate the feasibility of public-private partnerships in collaboration with the City, to divert waste from landfill sites in a sustainable, economically feasible manner.
The goal will be to create complementary services and infrastructure for the recovery of waste for processing and reuse instead of sending waste to landfill sites – many of which are close to capacity. It is also necessary to generate employment and potential sources of income by utilising recyclable waste.
The appointed consultant will assist with the legal, financial, economic, commercial and technical aspects to focus on the integration of new infrastructure with existing City waste management assets, all of which is needed to optimise waste management and waste minimisation.
The Transaction Advisor’s assignment is expected to take longer than three years, and therefore requires Council to invite comment from the local community, other interested persons and the National and Provincial Treasuries.
