The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate advises residents, road users of roadworks along segments of Willie van Schoor Avenue (the northbound carriage), Van Riebeeckshof Road (the westbound carriage) and Tygerberg Valley Road in Bellville. The works commenced this week and will be complete before the builders break in December 2026, if all goes according to plan.
The work will take place between 08:30 and 17:00 from Monday to Friday. The team has started with some minor works on the kerbs and channels along Willie van Schoor, and if all goes according to plan, paving should commence from 9 November 2026 onwards.
The details of the resurfacing works include:
- the milling of the existing roads and filling it with a new asphalt surfacing layer
- the repair of isolated kerbs and channels
- the removal and replacement of damaged guardrails
- removing of encroaching sand on sidewalks as well as the relocation of traffic loops and magnometers (technologies used to sense vehicles and manage traffic signals
This resurfacing and rehabilitation work forms part of the City of Cape Town’s Pavement Management System maintenance programme on existing roads. Regular maintenance prolongs the longevity of the City’s road network.
Traffic moving in both directions will be affected, however, flag personnel will direct traffic through temporary detours around the work area.
Residents are to note that vehicles parked in the road and obstructing the maintenance work will be moved or towed.
The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate thanks you for your cooperation and patience.
