Update on emergency repairs to water supply main affecting the Kraaifontein and Joostenbergvlakte areas

5 June 2022 by Alan

The City’s Water and Sanitation Department is still attending to emergency repairs to its 750mm diameter water supply main affecting the Kraaifontein and Joostenbergvlakte areas this morning. This has resulted in the shutting down of water supply to the Kraaifontein and Joostenbergvlakte areas. The maintenance crew has unfortunately encountered some difficulties yesterday, Saturday 4 June 2022 which has delayed the repair process. A substantial number of residents in these areas either had low water pressure or no water although various options have been explored to reroute alternate water supply as far as possible within the supply network at the time.

‘Most areas in Kraaifontein and Joostenbergvlakte areas will have experienced lower than usual water pressure as a result of the rerouted supply and some had no water as a result of the limitations for rerouting water supply in the network at the time. The situation has changed for the better with the additional pumped water supply which has been added to the rerouted water supply. Most of the affected areas should now have water.

‘The City sincerely regrets the inconvenience caused and assures residents the team is doing their level-best to complete the repairs in the shortest possible timeframe. We sincerely thank the residents in the affected areas for their patience during this period of inconvenience. The City is also investigating the cause of the damage to the water supply main,’ said Councillor Zahid Badroodien, Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation.

In areas where there are no water consumers are kindly requested to ensure that their taps are closed during this period to prevent any water loss and/or damage when the water supply is restored.

Water tankers will be operating as follows for the collection of water for domestic use and Covid-19 protocols will be applied:

One will be parked at Bossa in Buh Rein Estate, two will be roaming in the avenues in Eikendal and one will be roaming in Bonny Brae and Bonny Brooke.

The City regrets the inconvenience caused, and appreciates residents’ cooperation as it is imperative that it maintains its water supply infrastructure to the benefit of its consumers.

Updates on the water supply disruption and the tanker locations will be posted on the City’s Twitter Alerts page.
