Dean Wegerle, NSRI Table Bay coxswain, said: At 12h08, Monday, 25 May, NSRI Bakoven and NSRI Table Bay duty crews were alerted following reports of a local 9.3 meter motor vessel, with 2 local male crew onboard, requesting towing assistance following motor mechanical failure offshore at Clifton 4th Beach.
NSRI Table Bay duty crew responded to the NSRI Table Bay station 3 rescue base where the NSRI rescue craft DHL Deliverer was launched.
NSRI Bakoven crew remained on alert.
Reports indicated that they had deployed their anchor but the anchor was not holding fast and they were concerned that they were dragging anchor slowly towards shore.
NSRI shore crew established visuals from the road side monitoring the casualty vessel and while all looked to be safe the NSRI rescue craft made her way speedily to render assistance.
NSRI EOC (Emergency Operations Centre) and Telkom Maritime Radio Services assisted with marine VHF radio communications.
On arrival on the scene, finding both men safe, a towline was established and without incident we towed the vessel to The Water Club where she was safely moored and no further assistance was required.
The operation was successfully completed at 15h22.
The 2 men are commended for swiftly raising the alarm.
