Vintage continues to trend globally with style guru Deon Chang remarking on the growing popularity of emerging one-off vintage items world-wide and commenting that this signals a return to the unique and the artisanal.

Visitors to the 2015 Vintage Ideas Market at the Simondium’s Country Lodge from 24 -27 April will once again be able to immerse themselves in all things vintage and brides-to-be should not miss this year’s exciting edition. Featuring a country wedding exhibition with local floral artist Mia Bella, props by Simondium’s Country Lodge, wedding suppliers, bridal décor as well as vintage dresses and accessories, this exclusive showcase will reveal the unmistakable charm of country weddings.

On Saturday, 25 April, Ideas magazine will present a once-off wedding workshop with experts providing hints and tips to add a spectacular vintage touch to any wedding, including how to create your own wedding stationery and bouquet. Bookings can be done directly via the magazine at (021) 408 3040 and workshop tickets include free entry to the market. Workshop starts at 09h30 for 10h00 and space is limited, so book now to avoid disappointment.

Saturday will also see the gypsy swing band Pravda live in action. This classically trained Cape Town four-piece band has reinvented the ethnic music of Romania, Argentina and France to create a stunningly original sound. The combination of trumpet, clarinet, guitar and double bass will entertain visitors while interpreting melodies familiar to young and old with a modern twist.

Amongst the ever-popular favourites, this year’s market will also see several exciting new exhibitors, who will provide vintage inspiration for your home décor, garden and wardrobe. The deli will once again offer amazing home-made treats.

Add an antique touch to any room with sculptures and figurines from Rustic Romance. Artist Piet Cronje has created his own moulds to craft delicate faux marble works of art ranging from angels to birds and small animals.

The Décor Associates will also launch their brand-new range of high end bed linen and stunning wrought-iron beds reminiscent of the romance of yesteryear. The exquisite cotton and percale linen is embellished with top stich, embroidery and hand-made lace that will transform any bedroom into a haven.

Roux du Preez Designs will return with their beautifully crafted jewellery, while Hill House Interiors offers a range of soft furnishings, ceramics , cement and stone home and garden accessories, French home diffusers and fragrances as well as home-grown cut garden roses, bunches of fynbos, proteas and mixed country flowers. See a stained glass artist at work as Francois van der Merwe from Live Light Stained Glass demonstrates this ancient craft.

On Sunday, visitors will also be able to watch the Pniel Petanque Players in action alongside the Peacock Palace. This traditional version of the game boules originated in France in the 19th century and is enjoying renewed interest. Market goers can become part of the action and join in the game.

The Simondium’s Country Lodge is located on the R45 between Paarl and Franschhoek. The Vintage Ideas market is open daily from 9h30 – 16h00 from Friday, 24 April, till Sunday, 26 April, and from 9h30 – 15h00 on Monday, 27 April. Entry tickets cost R30 per adult, while kids under 13 enter free of charge. Plenty of secured parking is available at the venue.
