Voice of Courage Fashion Show Raises R60,000 for Yokhuselo Haven

21 August 2025 by Con Tributor

Gqeberha, South Africa – The Voice of Courage Fashion Show, held in celebration of Women’s Month, successfully raised R60,000 for Yokhuselo Haven, a safe haven for victims of gender-based violence. The event was hosted by Boardwalk Hotel and Casino in partnership with Camelot Spa and featured local fashion talent.

The fashion show, which took place this month in Gqeberha, showcased stunning styles while serving as a powerful fundraiser for Yokhuselo Haven. Tickets priced at R300 contributed directly to supporting vulnerable women and children residing at the Haven. The event featured performances by Fagrie Isaacs and Jade Engelbrecht, with impactful stories shared by Antoinette Hamman from Yokhuselo Haven.

Impact of Donation

The management and staff of Yokhuselo Haven expressed their gratitude to the residents of Gqeberha for the R60,000 donation received from ticket sales. Antonette Hamman, accountant at the Haven, said, “We are also grateful to Boardwalk Hotel and Casino, the fashion designers and hairstylists who participated, the Woolworths make-up division, and Camelot Spa for their kindness. Up to 11 ladies and children can stay with us, so the money will be put to good use to pay for electricity, water, and other essential services, along with putting food on the tables, buying toiletries and medicines, and filling our tanks with petrol to transport the women to court and back.”

Yokhuselo Haven provides a safe haven for women and children with no other place to turn, often victims of abuse where their abusers control their earnings. The Haven offers trauma counselling, guides residents through the legal process of obtaining protection orders, and provides skills training to help residents find jobs. Children in the Haven also receive support for their educational needs.

“It costs R35,000 to provide a safe haven to women and children who have nowhere else to turn,” said Hamman.

Community Support Against Gender-Based Violence

Boardwalk General Manager Tati Tsunke emphasized, “There is no room for gender-based violence to exist in 2025. Let us all continue to unite to provide crucial organisations like Yokhuselo Haven with the resources they need to give these vulnerable women and children alternatives in their lives.”
