The Water and Sanitation Department will be conducting emergency repairs to the 225mm diameter water supply main along Andries Pretorius Street in the Somerset West CBD Heights from 09:00 until 16:00 on Thursday, 4 August 2022. The repairs involve the urgent replacement of a leaking six-metre length of steel pipe and this will result in the disruption of the water supply to the Bridgewater area, Central CBD, Gant Centre Plaza and Gant Industrial area. The shut off of the water supply to these areas will enable the work to be done safely in the shortest possible time as well as prevent water loss and/or damage.
‘Careful consideration has been given to the planning of these repairs given the urgent nature and time constraints.
‘We consider the impact on residents and possible water losses carefully when we do infrastructure maintenance and repair work. The duration of the repairs, especially emergency repairs, is however dependent on the complexity of the task at hand and I ask consumers to please exercise patience while the maintenance crew attends to the repairs. They will attend to the repairs in the shortest possible timeframe,’ said Councillor Zahid Badroodien, Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation.
Consumers are kindly requested to store water upfront in clean, sealed containers for domestic consumption and ensure that all taps are closed to prevent water loss and/or damage when the supply is restored.
A water tanker will be located at the Roman Catholic Church in Lourens Street and another tanker will be located outside the Hottentots Holland High School in Island Road, Somerset West to provide water for domestic consumption where required.
The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused, but it is imperative that it maintains its water supply infrastructure to benefit its consumers.
