The Democratic Alliance in the Western Cape welcomes the completion of the independent adjudication process which promotes an objective relief programme by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sports in the Western Cape. This brings us one step closer in providing relief and recovery packages to those in the sports and cultural sectors who have suffered under the extended lockdown period.
MPP Reagen Allen said: “The panel included sport federations and seasoned administrators in the Western Cape, as well as internationally recognised art and production managers to ensure a fair process. While the process is still underway, R7.1 million is committed by the provincial government for relief programmes.”
Once the panel has completed its report it will be reviewed and processed by the provincial department which will then inform applicants the status of their applications.
“I call on those who are awaiting feedback from the provincial government, to ensure that they have all required documents at hand to prevent delays in the process of transferring relief packages to beneficiaries once successful applicants have been identified. The provincial department ensured that no application has been disqualified in this regard”, MPP Allen added.
The provincial Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport received several enquiries around the national governments relief packages. A separate R150 million was committed by the national department but some successful applicants have yet to receive grants.
MPP Reagen Allen concludes: “I thus welcome the thorough process by the panel especially after the separate national process was initially abruptly stopped by national government and several discrepancies were revealed in their funding process”.
