WC festive season road deaths decline by 23%

29 January 2020 by Con Tributor

The Democratic Alliance in the Western Cape Welcomes an announcement by the Western Cape Minister of Transport and Public Works, Bonginkosi Madikizela today that the number of festive season road fatalities in the Western Cape decreased by 23% over the 2019/20 period.

Daylin Mitchell, MPP says: “This decrease bears testament to the sterling work undertaken by the DA-led Western Cape government to enforce traffic bylaws making our roads safer across the province by protecting road users and pedestrians from traffic law violators. This work is so crucial because it prevents the unnecessary and tragic loss of life on our roads”.

One life lost is one too many, and we will continue to ensure that every person is safe on our roads.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Department under the leadership of Minister Madikizela, and his HOD who contributed to this remarkable achievement.

MPP Mitchell adds: “I will be meeting with the Western Cape Minister of Transport and Public Works, Bonginkosi Madikizela, to determine the full extent of the festive season operation and how we can expand on these programmes to further protect Western Cape road users and pedestrians”.

The DA in the Western Cape is committed to enforcing the rules of the road and traffic bylaws to protect the lives of our road users, and provide a safe, reliable, and world-class road transportation network where we govern.
