The DA in the Western Cape welcomes the plan announced by Premier Alan Winde to roll-back the resurgence of Covid-19 in the province. The provincial government will heavily rely on partnerships with residents and all organisations to limit the spread of Covid-19 during what is now classified as a resurgence of infections in the Metro & Garden Route districts.
MPP Wendy Philander says: “The plan is centred around targeted local and evidence based interventions which has proven to flatten the curve before, without the disastrous consequences of any form of blanket lockdown. In the Second Adjustment Budget, R864 million has been made available in the provincial reserves to support frontline departments to see the following efforts through:
- Increased surveillance;
- Scale up capacity management efforts;
- Enhance support for mental well-being and PPE provisions in frontline sectors;
- Continue the use of technology that has proven to help those at higher risk; and
- Activation of guidelines to ensure compliance of safety protocols that will help stop the spread.
We will be successful in our second fight through the increased vigilance and adherence to safety measure by residents and organisations. I call on residents to thus remain alert and by all means to avoid the 3 C’s: crowded spaces, close contact and confined spaces to at all costs prevent the implementation of a lockdown and its disastrous effects to our jobs and dignity.”
The DA believes that the only way to fight the resurgence is through responsible behaviour of ALL individuals and organisations, especially as we enter and look forward to the festive season.
