WC Government using Metaverse innovation to attract tourists

8 July 2022 by Alan

Dear Editor

The DA in the Western Cape congratulated Wesgro on the launch of its new game on popular online gaming platform, Roblox, that allows users to experience Table Mountain virtually. This has been done to take advantage of the proven influence of youth in deciding the destination of family holidays.

The game is the first of a planned series that will explore the diversity of natural experiences in the Western Cape.

Worldwide Covid-19 restrictions are being relaxed, and it is more important than ever to make sure that the Western Cape is seen as a choice destination for tourists. Parents take their children’s preference into account when choosing a destination, and this innovative approach from Wesgro will raise awareness of the natural diversity of our province among the world’s youth.

MPP Gillion Bosman says: “In the hyper competitive international tourism space it is important to find new ways to attract tourists to our shores. Wesgro has taken up that initiative by launching the Western Cape in the Metaverse, a move that will support the tourism industry in recovering from the effects of the pandemic, and lead to the creation of more jobs in the sector. The Provincial Government is once again acting as a pioneer in finding new ways to grow the economy, and in doing so proves that it is always striving to improve the lives of our citizens.”

Regards
