This past weekend saw athletes partake in the sold out multisport Westcoast Warmwater Weekend powered by MiFitLife.

Saturday comprised of a short and long distance triathlon which saw Ironman Champion Matt Trautman smash Dan Hugo’s previous course record of 2:53 setting a new record of 2:49. The podium positions comprised of Matt Trautman (1st), Jean Paul Burger (2nd), Conrad Stoltz (3rd), and on the ladies side, Kelly van der Toorn (1st), Keelyn Van Breda (2nd) and Nienke van Schaik (3rd). The Veteran podium positions consisted of Iain McGregor (1st) Manfred Wiehan (2nd) and Endurohub’s Frank Smuts (3rd).

The tough mountain bike course was won by Antoine van Heerden, second place went to Jean De Villiers and third place Theo Blignaut, with Tanya Rabie winning the ladies category.

On Sunday the overcast windy conditions proved tough for the athletes as they competed in a short (1.6km) and long (3.8km) swim in the Langebaan Lagoon. The 3.8km swim was won by Theo Blignaut, with Matt Trautman in 2nd and Ashley Kantor 3rd. The short swim was dominated by Antoine van Heerden who came 1st, Martin Poole (2nd) and Jonathan Elcock (3rd), whilst the ladies did phenomenally well with Lara Fury in 1st, Kate Neill 2nd, and Angelique Edwards 3rd.

The annual event is a family friendly weekend away taking place at the incredibly beautiful West Coast National Park, offering the ideal setting for racing as well as quality time out with family and friends.

2016 saw the introduction of MiFitLife, a product within MiWayLife who came on board as a sponsor, offering athletes generous prize money as well as life cover to the value of R500,000 for the duration of the weekend.

“It is a privilege for the MiWay brand to be involved in such a special event. The race setup, the beauty of the course and the spirit in which it is undertaken by athletes and organisers is so unique that it simply cannot be replicated. For those that have families, it also allows the whole family to enjoy the weekend and to participate in events that cater for everyone. We hope to see all the guys back next year.“ Comments MiWayLife CEO Craig Baker.
