The City of Cape Town is partnering with Stillwater Sports for the Totalsports Women’s Race, returning for the first time since 2019.
The Women’s Race is expecting to welcome over 9 000 runners including some of the continent’s top professional athletes and a sea of recreational runners in pink.
They will be taking on a 10km run/walk and a 5km fun run/walk around the Cape Town CBD. The Women’s Race is more than just a race event but an occasion to celebrate women, raise awareness and a fun day out for the family.
In conjunction with PinkDrive, the event raises awareness and education about breast cancer as well as improving the services available to women across South Africa.
PinkDrive will also offer free clinical breast examinations and highlight the importance of self- breast examinations.
‘The City of Cape Town is thrilled to see the return of the Totalsports Women’s Race after being cancelled the last two years during the pandemic. It is always wonderful to see the ‘Sea of Pink’ on the Mother City’s streets with women of all ages commemorating Women’s Day in this unique way and taking care of their wellness.
‘This is more special because women’s health is at the forefront of this event. The City is proud to be associated with and support events which contribute to highlighting important causes facing residents, and in this case, women. Breast cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer among women and the City of Cape Town’s Health Department runs breast cancer awareness campaigns which focus on self-examination and breast health. The objectives of the Totalsports Women’s Race are aligned with that of the City in promoting education and awareness in this regard,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
The annual race coincides with the national remembrance of the 1956 Women’s March against pass laws.
The runners will set off from the Grand Parade at 08:00 and take on a modified route that will see them go past some of the city’s iconic landmarks including City Hall, District Six, the Company’s Garden and Parliament, among others.
Participants can also enjoy live performances by local trio The Black Ties and tons of activities post-race.
Traffic Impact

The road closures will affect the MyCiTi service in part of the CBD.
The following stops will be affected during the road closure period:
- Lower Plein (Route 101, 103, 104,111 and 113)
- Groote Kerk southbound (Route 106, 107, 110 and 113)
- Darling (Route 102 & 113)
- Hanover Street westbound (Route 102)
