With a substantial growth in entries and producer numbers at this year’s Michelangelo Wine Awards, Vrede en Lust was overjoyed with 2 gold medals and a silver to acknowledge hard work and passion which goes into our wines.
Our first gold medal was awarded to our Syrah 2009, which is vast becoming one of the most popular wines in the range, with intense, dark fruit, spice aromas and a dollop of Viognier! The combination of grapes from both our warm climate farms, Vrede en Lust and Ricton made sure that this wine was going to turn out a winner. Loraine Immelman, founder and owner of the Michelangelo CCL Label International Wine Awards mentioned that the Shiraz entries for this year were of special high quality. We were also overjoyed when our single vineyard, Artisan Chenin Blanc (which we haven’t even released yet) was announced the winner of a gold medal. Our Artisan range was specifically created for our wine club members and is exclusively available to them within the first months of release.
No lesser feat was the silver medal for our Casey’s Ridge Viognier. With every passing harvest our Casey’s Ridge vineyards in Elgin shows more expressive fruit. This Viognier shows typical Viognier character, but with a cinnamon spice twist, hints of jasmine flowers, aniseed and peaches on the nose. This wine is very popular with our regular Vrede en Lust visitors and we are excited to see what will come from this vineyard in the future.
With these wonderful accolades we are very excited for the rest of the season and extremely proud of winemaker, Susan Erasmus and her team.
