Aitsa! Aftercare learners excited to take on the Fedhealth MTB Challenge at Root44

20 August 2023 by Con Tributor

Fifteen learners from the well-known Aitsa! Aftercare Centre in Stellenbosch will live out their MTBing dreams at the 8th annual Fedhealth MTB Challenge that will take place at Root44 on Saturday, 09 and Sunday 10 September 2023.

The Aitsa! Aftercare Centre opened its doors in 2014 in the picturesque village of Kylemore. The doors are open every afternoon, providing a safe place where children receive a cooked meal and fruit daily. It is also a place where the children’s full potential can be developed through holistic programs that provide a stimulating, nurturing and loving environment.

“We are thankful to the organisers of the Fedhealth MTB Challenge for making fifteen entries available to the children from the Aitsa! After Care Centre,” says Kirsty Newby, Aitsa! Aftercare Youth Facilitator. “Our learners have been taking part in the event for a few years now. We love the vibe that the race has. Our learners have MTB practice once a week at Aitsa! Entering them into an event like this is an awesome way to reward them for all their dedication. The event gives them the opportunity to give their all while showing off their talent.”

“The Fedhealth MTB Challenge is a highlight every year,” continues Newby. “Our learners had an amazing time at the 2022 event. It was a day filled with fun where they could warmup on the pump track and then give it their all during the race. At the beginning of 2023 they were already asking when is the ‘Fedhealth Race Weekend’? Our biggest reason for entering the MTB race is because of what it means to our learners. Many of our learners grow up in challenging circumstances or are forced to be the ‘adult’ in the household from a young age already. The Fedhealth MTB Challenge is that one day where they can forget about everything at home and just go out and enjoy life as a child again. It brings them a lot of joy. Our learners are excited to experience the new route, new starting point and all the exciting things that Root44 has to offer!”
