Amsterdam Tour Diary Day 2

31 March 2012 by Alan

Day Two of the Ajax Cape Town Under-17 Tour saw the boys gathering at the entrance to “De Toekomst” eager to get on the field.

After settling in to our new home and change room for the week, the squad quickly got stuck into the action with a thorough warm-up to fight off the cold.

The session was the first since the last training at Ikamva on Tuesday morning and was a good opportunity to let Amsterdam get a feel for the African style of rhythm warm-ups. The squad then went through some passing drills and positioning games before some variations on shooting exercises got the goalkeepers to work, as well as Team Manager Marco and Physiotherapist Tineke, who were left chasing some wayward shots.

The session was a short one due to the game against Ajax Under-16/Under-17 combined on Saturday morning, but the boys showed some good moments after the long trip from Cape Town.

After lunch the team walked over to the Amsterdam Arena to the Ajax Fanshop followed by a tour around the Stadium that ended on the pitch with some instructions and preparation for their duties as ball boys for the Eredivisie match to be played on Sunday afternoon.

Finally the day ended with a chance for the players to switch off from football when they spent some time trying out 10-pin bowling and then returning on the vans to their foster parents.

Ajax Cape Town Under-17 Coach Noel Cousins said ahead of tomorrow’s friendly against Ajax Amsterdam; “With both sides being combined Under-16 and Under-17, this game will show us a lot about the level of our boys and how well we have prepared for this tournament and give us a good insight about what we can expect for next weekend.”
