Cape Town is gearing up for its biggest annual music event – the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, which takes place on 30 and 31 March 2012.
Now in its 13th year, the two-day event will feature over 40 local and international artists performing on five stages at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
It has grown into a well-known international festival since its inception, ranked along with events such as Switzerland’s Montreaux Festival and the North Sea Jazz Festival in Holland.
Attendance figures at last year’s festival reached 34 000 – more than double the number who attended the first festival.
Headliners include international artists such as Lauryn Hill, Third World, Marcus Miller, Patti Austin, Kevin Mahogany, while local acts include Hugh Masakela, Dorothy Masuka, Hip Hop Pantsula and Ill Skillz.
The City of Cape Town is one of the sponsors of the festival.
“This musical celebration epitomises what this administration aims to do in building an inclusive city by bringing together people from diverse backgrounds throughout the city and the rest of the country to enjoy the musical talents of local artists and renowned international superstars. The City of Cape Town will continue to support this festival to promote the heritage of jazz music and ensure that it continues to attract large crowds,” says Executive Mayor, Alderman Patricia de Lille.

Public parking
Those attending the festival are urged to make use of public transport as far as possible in order to avoid traffic congestion. Parking will be available at the following venues:
- Elevated Freeway Parking Garage
- Under the elevated freeways in front of the Media24 building
- SARS building in Lower Long Street
- Open parking at Lower Long and Lower Loop streets
