The annual Artscape Youth Jazz Festival will be held on Saturday June 2, 2012, and the organisers are inviting young singers and solo instrumentalists to audition for it.
The auditions will be held in the Artscape Theatre on Saturday April 14, 2012.
Young musicians – no older than 25 years old – will be offered the opportunity of performing with a professional jazz ensemble.
According to the organisers, candidates should be bona fide professional, semi-professional or amateur performing artists; or aspiring gifted musicians who have a track record of performing. A high concert standard of performance is essential.
A preferred list of pieces/songs, with keys, must be submitted, and candidates are encouraged to choose works from this standard jazz repertoire. Sheet music for piano, bass and drums must be submitted where possible.
A maximum time of about 15 minutes is recommended for the performance.
Those auditioning must also be resident or studying in the Western Cape, and are required to attend auditions at their own cost.
Candidates must also be available for all required rehearsals at Artscape in Cape Town from Friday June 1.
Audition forms must be submitted by no later than Friday, March 23.
For audition forms and enquiries, please contact Tarnia van Zitters at 021 410 9803 or email tarniav@artscape.co.za.
