Pat van Eyssen, NSRI Table Bay duty coxswain, said:
At 19h00, Wednesday, 8th February, NSRI Table Bay were activated by TNPA (Transnet National Ports Authority) dispatched the sea rescue craft Spirit of Vodacom and Spirit of Day following a request for assistance from the local yacht Cape Dancer, with 12 crew onboard (9 males and 3 females), reporting their yacht dismasted off-shore of Sunset Beach.
It appears that the mast came down after a Stay broke onboard and they had retrieved the mast onto the deck and no one was injured.
Eye-witnesses along the beach front had also called NSRI to report the incident.
On arrival on the scene the yacht was under motor power heading towards the Port of Table Bay slowly. A tow-line was rigged and our sea rescue craft towed them into Port where they then berthed under their own motor power and no further assistance was required.
