Fun Western Cape Fact: During the second Boer War, Stellenbosch was home to a British military base that served to re-assign officers that were not getting the job done on the front line. This led to the coining of the embarrassing term “to be Stellenbosched”, which gained regular usage in that day for those demoted to a lesser role due to incompetence.
