Four weeks after DHL launched its exciting 1 000 000 meals by December campaign, the global leader in express logistics is proud to announce that just over 617,206 meals have been prepared and delivered nationwide to communities in need by iconic food distribution charities FoodForward SA and Mother Soup.
“We are overjoyed by the progress that FoodForward SA and Mother Soup have made in such a short period of time,” says Megan Collinicos, VP Marketing, DHL Express Sub Saharan Africa. “We have committed to reaching a total of 1 000 000 meals by December. Taking into account the progress that FoodForward SA and Mother Soup have made so far, we are confident that we will reach our goal. We commend the two charities for the selfless work that they do. We are excited to take on this challenge with you. Our teams in South Africa are having a great time showing their support as volunteers.”
Established in 2009 to address widespread hunger in South Africa, FoodForward SA connects a world of excess to a world of need by recovering edible surplus food from farmers, manufacturers and retailers, for redistribution to registered beneficiary organisations that serve the poor. FoodForward SA calls this cost-effective model Foodbanking.
“DHL’s 1 000 000 meals by December campaign has gotten off to a really good start and FoodForward SA is proud to play its part,” says Andy Du Plessis, FoodForward SA Managing Director. “The campaign has added a level of excitement to our daily routine. Our strategy is to gradually chip away at the goal in all nine provinces. Slow and steady wins the race. We value our partnership with DHL. Their contribution and support will touch many lives.”
Housed at the Woodstock Brewery, Mother Soup was founded during lockdown and focusses on supplying nutritious hot soup to hungry communities in the Cape Town metropolitan area as part of a community-led initiative to help those hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Mother Soup is a partnership between Woodstock Brewery and Great Commission United, a non-profit organisation that has been in existence since 2000.
“Our chefs have been cooking up a storm,” says Andre Viljoen, Woodstock Brewery Owner. “DHL’s 1 000 000 meals by December campaign has really created a stir and our team is both proud and excited to be part of the action. It is really special when people from all walks of life stand together for the greater good.”
