Don’t Let Coalition Chaos Come to Cape Town

27 October 2026 by Con Tributor

Statement by Geordin Hill-Lewis – Leader of the Democratic Alliance and Cape Town Mayoral Candidate:

I am calling on Capetonians to keep coalition chaos out of our city by voting Democratic Alliance on 4 November.

Cape Town has made so much progress, but we have much more to do, and we cannot allow the instability that has gripped Johannesburg to take hold here.

With just days to go, I am asking personally for Capetonians’ support so that, together, we can take Cape Town forward for everyone.

Currently the race for Cape Town is close. Cape Town’s progress is on the ballot. And there is no such thing as a safe majority if the people who support it stay at home. Polling puts the DA on 51% in Cape Town, and this election is too close for comfort.

Voting for smaller parties just opens the door to the ANC and EFF to take over Cape Town.

We cannot allow that instability to come to Cape Town.

During this term, Cape Town added 418 000 jobs, deployed more officers and invested in the infrastructure our growing city needs.
And we have much more to do.

In the next five years we will build a Metro Police Detective Unit, cut red tape so businesses can grow and create jobs, replace 100 km of water pipes and 100 km of sewer pipes every year, and buy cheaper electricity from independent producers to pass the savings on to you.

That work needs a renewed mandate. It needs your vote.

The people of Cape town should not assume that this election is already won. Do not assume that your neighbours will turn out in sufficient numbers. Do not assume that the government you want will be returned without you.

If you want to take Cape Town forward, you need to unite behind the DA and get out to vote DA next week.

Serving as your Mayor these past five years has been the greatest honour of my life. I am asking you personally for your support to take Cape Town forward for everyone.

On 4 November, vote DA. Keep coalition chaos out. Keep Cape Town moving forward.
