This iconic car needs no introduction in South Africa and has earned its reputation as a legend on the streets and also being a highly sought-after weapon of choice in the world of Spinning.

You may know DJ Maphorisa for his talent in the studio and behind the decks, but his skill doesn’t end there. We linked up with the man himself to get to know the other side of Porry and his newfound obsession with Spinning.

What Is Spinning?

Spinning is a South African motorsport that involves driving cars at speed in circles and performing stunts in and out of the vehicle. It originated in Soweto in the late 1980s. It was performed as a funeral ritual in which a stolen car was spun around to honour the deceased. It is now a recognised motorsport.

What Is The Box Shape?

For decades, the rear-wheel-drive “box shape” BMW 325is – dubbed as the Gusheshe in South Africa’s townships – continues to be the vehicle of choice for skilled drivers who execute heart-stopping twists and unbelievable stunts while spinning.
