Stuart Burgess, NSRI Gordon’s Bay coxswain said: “On Sunday 11 April, NSRI Gordon’s Bay were activated at 07h51 following reports of a man swept off rocks by waves at Jan se Gat, North of Cape Hangklip.
[ad#Google Adsense 125×125 Blog Post]We launched our rescue craft Sanlam Rescuer and Douglas Murray and the SA Police Services, Metro Ambulance and Rescue Services, the Metro Red Cross AMS helicopter and the Police Dive Unit responded to the scene.
On arrival on-scene a search commenced for a 43 year old Kuils River man who had reportedly been crayfishing from rocks with friends when he was swept into the sea by waves that washed over the rocks dragging the man into the sea.
During the search the crew aboard a private boat, La Mer, reported spotting the body of a man floating 1.2 nautical miles off-shore and the body of the man was recovered onto our rescue craft and transported to our NSRI rescue base where the body has been handed into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services.
Police have opened an inquest docket.”
