Higher Life International Conference

The Christ Embassy Church will be hosting a three day Higher Life International Conference from Friday, 16 March to Sunday, 18 March 2012 at the Cape Town Stadium.

A capacity crowd is expected over the three days. This will have an impact on residents on businesses in the area. The City apologises for the inconvenience that may be caused and thanks residents and business for their patience and understanding.

Details of this event are as follows:

A total of 60 000 guests, staff and service providers are expected each day over the three days.

The gates open daily at 14:00.

The conference begins at 17:00 and will end at 22:00 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

An extensive public transport plan will be activated to ensure that vehicular and pedestrian traffic is carefully managed in the stadium precinct. Details follow below. The fan walk along Somerset Road will be operational.

Sound testing and rehearsals will be done on Thursday, 15 March from 18:00 till 23:00.

On Monday, 12 March the lights in the stadium will be on to allow the loading of event related services and equipment.

Pre-registered guests can collect their conference tickets on the Cape Town Train Station Forecourt from 12 – 15 of March. No tickets can be collected at the Cape Town Stadium.

Road closures

Public transport

There will be no parking available at or near the stadium. Conference attendees are encouraged to use public transport to and from the stadium. Extra event-related public transport will supplement the usual services and Metrorail has arranged for additional trains on selected lines to run after the event. This will ease the anticipated high traffic flows and ensure that attendees can arrive on time and are able to get home safely after the event.

Rail

Attendees commuting on any Metrorail train to and from the event at Cape Town Stadium may travel free of charge on presentation of a valid event ticket. All persons not in possession or able to produce the required valid event ticket will be charged the full fare for the journey. Train services to Cape Town Rail Station will run as normal with additional trains provided after the event.

Event bus shuttles

Shuttle services to and from the Stadium are provided free of charge on presentation of a valid event ticket.

Between the MyCiTi Civic Centre Station and the Stadium
The first event shuttle bus from the Civic Centre MyCiTi bus station in Hertzog Boulevard departs at 14:00 on all three days, 16 – 18 March. Thereafter a bus will leave every 15 minutes or when full. The last bus will leave the Stadium bus station at 23:30.

Between University of Cape Town (UCT) and the MyCiTi Civic Centre Station
The first bus departs from UCT’s Upper Campus in Rondebosch to the Civic Centre Station in Hertzog Boulevard on Saturday and Sunday only (no service on Friday) at 14:00. The last bus to the event will UCT at 18:30 and there will be no service during the event. Thereafter a bus will leave every 20 minutes or when full. The first return bus back to UCT will leave the Civic Centre Station at 22:30 and the last bus will leave at 23:30.

Between Hout Bay and the stadium
Buses will depart from the Police Station (Imizamo Yethu) in Hout Bay. The bus then proceeds to Maiden’s Cove in Camps Bay, and Main Road, Green Point opposite York Road. The first bus will depart at 14:00 on all three days of the conference.Thereafter a bus will leave every 30 minutes or when full. The last bus to the event leaves Hout Bay at 18:30 and there will be no service during the event. The first return bus after the event will leave around 22:20 from Main Road, Green Point opposite York Road. The last bus back to Hout Bay will leave at 23:30.

Parking for the Hout Bay to stadium service:
At Maiden’s Cove free parking is available on Victoria Road or in the municipal parking area off Victoria Road. Security guards will be deployed at the off street parking areas in Victoria Road.

Extended MyCiTi service: Civic Centre Station to Table View Station
The hours of operation of the MyCiTi service between Civic Centre and Table View bus stations have been extended.

Prior to the event, passengers will be required to use the myconnect card to travel to the Civic Centre bus station. Cards are available from any MyCiTi station kiosk.

After the event, passengers will be able to use the service free of charge on presentation of a valid event ticket stub.

Buses will depart from the MyCiTi Civic Centre Station at 22:30, 23:00 and 23:30. The last bus departs at 23:30.

Please note: after the event passengers will only be able to disembark at Lagoon Beach, Woodbridge, Milnerton, Racecourse, Sunset Beach and Table View Stations.

The F14, F15 and F16 feeder routes will also depart Table View Station every 30 mins between 23:00 and 24:00. The midnight bus will be the last bus to depart on the feeder routes.

Park-and-Rides

Park-and-Rides allow attendees to park at selected public transport locations or at dedicated shuttle service points. Security will be present from 14:00 until after the last train has left the station or bus/minibus taxi has departed.

Impact of Road Closures on Public Transport Services

Public transport services operating in the Green Point and CBD areas may be subject to localised deviations from 14:00 on 16, 17 18 March. The affected scheduled services are listed below:

Golden Arrow Bus services travelling through the Green Point area

All services along Somerset-Main Road Green Point between Buitengracht and York Road will run along Helen Suzman Boulevard. Passengers using this service may board or disembark at the stops either side of the closures at Buitengracht or York Road.

Golden Arrow Bus services entering the CBD

The Waterfront service will operate via the CTICC, turning right into Heerengracht, stopping opposite Standard Bank, proceeding around the circle, back down Heerengracht and on to the Waterfront.

The Waterfront-Sea Point service will continue to operate on its normal routes but may be subject to slight delays.

MyCiTi Bus Service – effective from 14h00

The normal Civic Centre-Waterfront MyCiTi bus service will not be free of charge to event ticket holders.

The Civic Centre-Waterfront MyCiTi service will stop at the Stadium bus station en route to the Waterfront and then will be rerouted turning left into Portswood Road from Helen Suzman Boulevard, left into Beach Road and right at the traffic circle into Granger Bay Boulevard.

Granger Bay bus station will be closed for this period while all other stops and services on the Gardens-Civic-Waterfront route will remain operational.

Passengers may use the Waterfront (in Breakwater Lane), Stadium station and/or Buitengracht stops as alternatives to the Granger Bay stations.

On the return journey from the Waterfront, the bus will turn left into Beach Road, right into Portswood Road and left at Helen Suzman Boulevard to continue its normal route to the CBD.

The bus will not stop at Stadium Station on the return trip during this period.

Parking

Parking restrictions will be enforced in residential areas adjacent to Cape Town Stadium from 00:00 on 16 March to 24:00 (midnight) on 18 March, including on Main Road. Motorists are advised to obey the signage.

Normal restrictions and charges apply to kerbside parking in the CBD.

People with disabilities: Dedicated parking has been allocated on DF Malan Drive for those attendees with disabilities who wish to use the Stadium shuttle. Only people with an official disability permit from the City will be allowed to park in this dedicated parking area.
There is no charge for the limited disabled parking at the stadium in parking area P5 within the stadium precinct (which is located off Vlei Road). These tickets can be obtained on request by contacting Janene Bradfield on 0861 28 2012 or at assist@higherlifecapetown.com. Please note that you will be requested to provide proof that you have a legitimate disabled permit or a letter from your Doctor indicating the need for such a parking space.

Disabled parking access is issued at the discretion of the Higher Life Team and subject to availability.

Drop-and-Go: Attendees may be dropped off and collected in DF Malan Drive opposite the Artscape Theatre or dropped off on Helen Suzman Boulevard (seaside carriageway) between Vlei Road and the elevated circle.

On-street in the CBD: On-street parking is available within the CBD but no additional security will be provided. Parking tariffs will apply until 18:00 when on street parking is free of charge.

VA Waterfront: The VA Waterfront has approximately 3,500 parking bays available to the general public. There is a charge associated with this parking, and traffic flows into and out of the VA Waterfront may be congested.

Pedestrian routes

The Fan Walk provides the opportunity for attendees to move from the Civic Centre bus and Cape Town rail stations to the stadium at Green Point along a dedicated pedestrian route. After 14:00 roads down the fan walk will be closed as pedestrian volumes increase. A contra-flow system will be provided for local vehicle access on the mountain side carriageway on Main Road in Green Point between York and De Smit Streets.

Pedestrian access between the Waterfront and Stadium will be via Granger Bay Boulevard and, between the City and Stadium, via the Fan Walk and underpass at the Green Point Circle.

Cycling

Attendees wishing to cycle to the stadium are encouraged to do so. Bicycle racks are located on the eastern (Waterfront) side of the elevated circle at the stadium. Cyclists must provide their own lock and chain as bicycles are left at own risk. Please remember to wear a helmet, have adequate lighting and wear reflective clothing. Please note: helmets are not allowed inside the stadium. Due to the number of people using the Fan Walk, it is advised that cyclists coming from the CBD use the route through the VA Waterfront or the back roads in De Waterkant to access the stadium.

Ticket collection

Attendees are encouraged to collect their tickets before the event as it will enable them to enjoy free transport on the train and event specific services on event days.

Attendees can collect their tickets from the Forecourt of Cape Town Rail Station from 12 – 15 March between 06:00 and 21:00. Tickets may also be collected between 07:00 and 17:00 on event days.
