The Coon Carnival / Cape Minstrel rehearsels in Bontiville, in preparation for Tweede Nuwe Jaar (2 January) parade through central Cape Town.

Each troupe (60 – 65) has a band, dancers, kiddies choir and adult choir. The entire troupe can number 400 – 500. Members are from different areas in the coloured community.

This is the kiddies choir rehearsal in Bontiville, 30 January 2010, for the Olympic Superstars troupe (est. 2004, though Coon Carnival has been running long enough that grandchildren are following in the footsteps of great grandparents).

A lot of singing and re-singing (‘That was only 70%! We need 90%! Do it again!’)
