MyCiTi bus accident under investigation

1 July 2022 by Alan

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate is investigating the accident involving a MyCiTi N2 Express bus earlier this evening along Nelson Mandela Boulevard outbound, before Browning Road. We can confirm that no fatalities have been reported to the City.

The accident happened at around 18:15 last night.

‘We are grateful that no fatalities have been reported to the City and I sincerely hope and trust this remains the case. As far as we know, three people sustained minor injuries, but we will know more by tomorrow. It is unclear what has caused the accident, this will form part of the investigation. Once we have the details, we will be able to inform the public,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

Traffic and MyCiTi route deviations will be in place until such time as the accident scene on the outbound lane of Nelson Mandela Boulevard, closest corner Browning Road, has been cleared.

The vehicle operating company whose bus driver was involved will investigate the incident and are required to submit an accident report to the City. Also, the vehicle operating company is required to report the road accident to the South African Police Service.

The City is committed to providing a world-class public transport system to our residents, with passenger safety being non-negotiable.

For enquiries call the Transport Information Centre (toll-free 24/7) on 0800 65 64 63, or email transport.info@capetown.gov.za.
