No Easter Break for Waste Services

1 April 2026 by Con Tributor

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Waste Management Directorate advises residents of continued waste collection over the upcoming public holidays on 3 and 6 April, and contingency plans in the event of unplanned disruption or delays.

Waste and recycling collection

Waste and recycling (for areas that receive this service) are scheduled to be collected as usual, including these public holidays:

  • Friday, 3 April 2026
  • Monday, 6 April 2026

Residents are encouraged to ensure all bins are placed out for servicing as early as possible, as reduced peak traffic over this period means crews travel quickly on their routes.

Residents should also leave bins out until 21:00 each night to ensure collection, as the Easter period carries a higher risk of unplanned disruptions and delays. If the bin is not emptied on the scheduled day, please bring it out again each day until it is emptied. Report uncollected bins after 48 hours.

Community Recycling Centres

On Good Friday/Easter Monday Community Recycling Facilities/Drop-off sites will operate according to Saturday/public holiday, hours listed here. On Easter Sunday sites will operate according to normal Sunday hours.

Please note that disposal of garden greens is currently restricted to Coastal Park landfill for commercial customers. In addition residential customers should note that disposal of garden greens is restricted to one load per day.
