Roadworks at Gardens MyCiTi Station from 16 – 18 March

13 March 2012 by CapeTownNewsReader

Construction work in the vicinity of the new Gardens MyCiTi Station is planned for this coming weekend (16, 17 18 March 2012)

Engineers need to resurface the road immediately surrounding the MyCiTi Gardens Station, which is located under the Mill Street bridge in Gardens. Some road closures will be implemented.

The work will be done in three phases (as shown in the diagram on the right):

  • Phase 1: Friday, 16 March 2012, 07:00 to 17:00 – Resurfacing of Mill Street (next to the newly constructed red bus lanes). Traffic will be diverted onto the red bus lanes. Delays are expected, but no road closures will be implemented.
  • Phase 2: Saturday, 17 March 2012, 07:00 to 17:00 – Closure of Lower Mill Street (in the direction of Jutland Ave, on the KFC side of the station), as well as the Maynard Street intersection.
  • Phase 3: Sunday, 18 March 2012, 07:00 to 17:00 – Closure of Lower Mill Street (in the direction of Gardens Centre), as well as the Buitenkant Street intersection.

The work will involve heavy machinery, and will generate noise that will disrupt residents.

The City apologises for the inconvenience caused by the road works. The bulk of the work has been scheduled for a weekend in an attempt to minimise the impact on normal traffic flow in the area. Where possible, we advise road users to plan alternate routes. MyCiTi services running through the area will be unaffected.
