Safe collection of social grants during lockdown

30 March 2020 by Con Tributor

It is still possible to collect a social grant during the current COVID-19 lockdown. Physical distancing must be upheld for safe collection of grants.

MPP Gillion Bosman said: “We welcome the initiative by SASSA to pay grants only to the elderly and disabled persons on from 30-31 March. This will allow recipients to avoid standing in long queues and reduce the number of individuals in line, an important step for social distancing”

From the 1 April onwards, Child Support, Foster Care, War Veterans, and other grants will be paid out to recipients.

MPP Bosman added: ”Where possible, we do urge grant recipients to wait a little while longer to avoid large crowds which increase the chances of spreading germs. Grants will still be available in your account for three months after they have been paid. When collecting your grant, please remember that taxis and buses will operate from 05:00-20:00.”

The DA in the Western Cape reminds residents to wash hands with soap and water, cough into a flexed elbow, avoiding touching the face, and stay home as much as possible so that, together, we can stop the spread.
