Capetonians who missed the chance to attend the first game at the brand-new Cape Town Stadium have already purchased all available tickets for the second event, two weeks later.
All 60 000 tickets to both games at the city’s new 2010 FIFA World Cup™ stadium – a soccer match between Santos and Ajax Cape Town held on 23 January and a rugby match between two local teams on 6 February – sold out within days after becoming available.
The Cape Town Rugby Festival, the second game at the stadium, will feature a friendly between Boland Invitational XV, and the Stormers. Up to 40 000 spectators will not only be able to see top players such as Bryan Habana, Schalk Burger and Jaque Fourie in action, but also witness the first ever rugby match in the new stadium.
Cape Town Tens will also host a Tens festival-type match as the curtain-raiser. An SA Legends selection will play against an International Legends team, which will feature players such as Robbie Fleck and Bob Skinstad.
The Tens rugby festival will then continue at the nearby Hamilton’s club.
Both games are being used as an opportunity for the operators, Sail Stadefrance, to test the stadium’s readiness for the World Cup™. At least one more event will be held in the coming months, this time with a full 68 000 capacity crowd, which will also test other aspects of the City of Cape Town’s preparations and readiness for the World Cup™.
Tickets for the Cape Town Rugby Festival were R50 and R80. The City will be offering a free shuttle service from the Civic Centre in Hertzog Boulevard to the stadium and back. Fans must present their match tickets to make use of this facility.
Fans wishing to park their cars at railway stations and catch trains to the venue may do so from Brackenfell, Goodwood, Kuils River and Mitchells Plain rail stations, where free and secure parking has been arranged from 11:00 till 21:00: For a map showing these facilities, click here.

Brackenfell Rail Station, situated off Old Paarl Road on William Dabs Street. About 350 bays are available in the newly refurbished parking area at the station off the Old Paarl Road, opposite the Hypermarket. (click here for the map)

Kuils River Rail Station, situated off Van Riebeeck Road on Station Road and off Nooiensfontein Drive. About 300 parking bays are available on the CBD side of the station, off Van Riebeeck Road. Mitchells Plain Rail Station, situated west off AZ Berman Drive on 4thAvenue and from the east off Merrydale Avenue on Pall Mall Way. About 200 parking bays are available south off 4th Avenue south of the Mitchells Plain CBD.
The traveling time to the stadium is estimated at 1 hour and 15 minutes (a 53 minute train journey, a 5 minute walk to the shuttle and 15 minutes in the shuttle from Hertzog Boulevard to the stadium).
The latest train you should catch to see the curtain raiser is the 13.23 train. For the kick-off, the latest train should be the 14.53 train**
