On 14 January 2016 between 05:30 and 10:00 police attached to Trio Crimes and gangs conducted an operation at Marcus Gavey, Philippi after they received a tip off from the community of illegal cultivation of dagga in that area. Dagga plants with estimated street value of R1.7 million were confiscated. Five suspects, four males and female ages between 26 and 43 were arrested. All suspects are expected to appear in Athlone magistrate’s court on tomorrow 15 January 2016 on charges of illegal cultivation of dagga.
