Roxy Traylor, NSRI Table Bay coxswain, said: On Friday afternoon, 10 April, while our duty crew were at our NSRI Table Bay station 3 rescue base, at 17h30 we intercepted communications between a local sailing yacht and TNPA (Transnet National Ports Authority) Port of Table Bay Port Control – they reported their vessel, with 2 crew onboard, had motor mechanical failure while they were making their way to Dassen Island to take part in a local regatta.
In light winds they had managed to sail back to Table Bay Port and they required assistance to get their sailing yacht to her moorings at RCYC (Royal Cape Yacht Club).
We offered to assist and at 17h35 we launched the NSRI rescue craft Spirit of Day and rendezvoused with the sailing yacht in Duncan Docks in the Table Bay Port.
Conditions were favourable to raft our rescue craft alongside the sailing yacht and without incident we brought her safely to her moorings and no further assistance was required.
Ewald Bonzet, NSRI Table Bay duty coxswain, said:
On Sunday, 12 April, at 05h43, NSRI Table Bay were alerted following reports from a local 35 foot sailing yacht reporting motor mechanical failure and requiring a tow.
They were offshore of Camps Bay at the time.
NSRI Bakoven were placed on alert while our duty crew responded to our NSRI Table Bay station 3 rescue base and we launched the NSRI rescue craft DHL Deliverer and Spirit of Day.
On arrival on the scene a towline was established and we towed the yacht towards the Port of Table Bay and after waiting in a holding pattern outside of the Port entrance, for a motor vessel tanker to come into Port, we brought the sailing yacht into Port where we rafted alongside her and brought her safely to her moorings without incident and they required no further assistance.
