The second issue of The West Wind digital magazine has been published, and it is another great local read, covering the greater St Francis area, including Humansdorp and JBay.
The feature article is on local JBay professional surfer Matt McGillivray. It covers his recent runner-up result at Tweed Heads in Australia. Matt decided to sit out the lockdown in Australia, where he was preparing for the first Championship Tour event of the year, the Corona Open Gold Coast.
During the lockdown, Rip Curl surfer Matt surfed and trained, as it was encouraged in Australia, and was well-prepared for the Tweed Coast Pro, where he placed second.
The wonderful Bruce’s Beauties gets a look-see, and the magazine examines the discovery of the surf spot, and the myths that surround the discover in 1963. The ‘discovery’ as framed in Bruce Brown’s classic surf movie Endless Summer was only filmed days after the extraordinary first session. It was just put in for dramatic effect. Either way, it worked well, and the discovery attracted surfers from all over the world to come and surf the incredible waves of St Francis Bay.
The West Wind chats to local surfer Ike Forsyth. He is the start-up shopping app Farmers Cart’s founder and owner. We examine his seamless approach to online shopping with the Farmers Cart app, making it easier for the locals and others to do their shopping and have it delivered.
Digital-only, The West Wind e-zine is proving to be a popular read and has been well-received in the local community.
