Newcastle: Tristan Louw, a 21-year-old from Newcastle, recently won an R1,8 Million Mercedes AMG A45 S in a Monster Energy giveaway. Based on SMSing a bar code from a can of Monster Energy, the’ Fastest Pair’ competition gave away the Mercedes and a Yamaha R1M motorbike, valued at R500k.

“I didn’t really think I was going to win the car, but I have been praying about it a lot,” said Tristan, when interviewed after hearing the news that he had won.’

Tristan and his mom drove from Newcastle to Jozi to be at the ceremony, not knowing what would happen.

“I drove down with my mom in the Kombi,” said Tristan of his exciting day. “It was a 3-hour drive, but it was definitely worth it.”

“I definitely plan to keep the car,” said Tristan on his plans going forward with his new beast of a vehicle. “It is like the ultimate 21st birthday present.”

With Tristan’s incredible prize, the Yamaha R1M, valued at R500k, went to Dhavasundra ‘Jonathan’ Govender from Edenvale in Johannesburg.

“I was reading my horoscope, and it said a big win was coming my way,” said Govender. “To be honest, I haven’t driven something with this sort of horse-power. This is definitely one of a kind. I thought it was actually one of the smaller bikes, and I only realised how big it was when I saw it in front of me.”

Govender was incredibly excited about his big win, over half a million Rand’s worth of bike, but was definitely a little daunted by the sheer brawn.

“I might have to have a few lessons from the Yamaha crew to get me ready for the track,” continued Govender. The bike looks pretty intimidating, so maybe a few lessons are needed.”

Still, his horoscope was spot on, and his ‘big win’ was not something you see every day. The Yamaha R1M is an incredible machine, and to win such a prize is a once in a lifetime experience.
